Church Recording is an initiative from the National Association. Organised throughout the U.K., groups of volunteers record the contents and fabric of local churches. This valuable and rewarding activity promotes the recognition and preservation of the rich artistic heritage in places of worship. Items are described in detail and their history is researched. All the material is then compiled into a book illustrated with photographs and drawings. This is presented to the church and copies are also sent to the Victoria & Albert Museum, English Heritage Archives and several other national institutions.

Currently a group of volunteers from Orwell DFAS and from other local societies are engaged in a Church Recording project at the Church of St Mary and St Peter, Barham. The image is of the famous modern sculpture of Madonna and Child by Henry Moore in the church.
