THE ARTS SOCIETY'S TRAIL OF DISCOVERY LAUNCH EVENT FOR ST MARY'S, HARKSTEAD
Saturday 24 November 2018

The launch of our first ever Trail of Discovery was held at St Mary's Harkstead, on Saturday 24th November, and was formally handed over to the Rev Canon Liesbeth Oosterhof, Rector of St Mary's who thanked members of Orwell Decorative and Fine Arts Society (ODFAS) and others who had been instrumental in producing the Trail. This splendid church welcomed a small group of children and their parents with fun, cakes and drinks before the Trail was enthusiastically tested by the children.

The aim of the Arts Society Trails of Discovery is to encourage children and their families to explore a church and to discover the treasures to be found there. Our guided questionnaire sheet takes children round the inside of the building and introduces them to the art, architecture and history of the church, including church furnishings. There is an answer sheet with explanatory notes. The questionnaire is fun to do and includes making drawings and writing down answers. It can be done by anyone at any time when the church is open.  It's a good idea if they bring along a torch to shine a light on some of the features in the church!
